Ruling Awami League-backed Rajshahi City Corporation’s mayoral aspirant AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has promised to undertake four-times the work he had done during his previous term.

On the last day of canvassing, he offered apologies for his ‘mistakes’ in the previous term and stressed they would not be repeated.

“I want to turn this city into an educated and industrial one,” he said on Thursday.

Liton promised to create jobs for 50,000 people in the city corporation by setting up factories.
On Jun 10, the BNP had filed a written complaint to the Election Commission alleging he had violated the electoral code of conduct.
A former Mayor, Liton apologised for his shortcomings during his tenure.
“I am not a superhuman. I leave it to you to judge my successes and failures,” he said.
His list of promises include, initiatives to set up two public universities in the city, turning the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital into a university, setting up an Agricultural University by separating the agricultural faculty of the Rajshahi University, and setting up Rajshahi City University.
As expected, the Awami League-backed candidate took a dig at BNP leader Mizanur Rahman Minu, a former mayor of the city corporation.
Liton alleged the Nagar Bhaban had been tainted with corruption during Minu’s term and the city corporation itself was in debts.
His canvassing committee convenor Fazle Hossain Badshah MP said Liton had significantly changed the city’s condition over the past four and half years.
Badshah urged everyone to elect the son of National Leader AHM Kamruzzaman to continue the development process.
Opposition-backed candidate Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul had alleged the Prime Minister had visited Rajshahi on Thursday to influence polls.
Badshah said if Sheikh Hasina wanted to exert influence on the administration, she could have done it from Dhaka.
He denounced the opposition’s allegation of holding closed-door meeting at the EC saying he had gone there to obtain car stickers but did not get them.
